Christian
Anderson, MD

Founding Surgeon, CMO

As an orthopaedic surgeon, I have always had an interest in advancing sports medicine through research and innovation. The roots of this passion go all the way back to high school when I created a novel fishhook design. From that point, it’s been my lifelong goal to create meaningful products that improve lives. I feel fortunate to be able to pursue my dream by creating some inspiring and innovative devices that focus on saving the knee.

FOUNDING STORY

Exploring What’s Possible.

Discovering my love
for invention.

As a kid, I spent all my spare time fishing. And then, when I was 18 it struck me that the fishing hook had been the same for hundreds of years and immediately went to work improving the design. I took drawings and my ideas for a better hook to a patent attorney and quickly discovered I didn’t have the funding to turn it into a reality. I was disappointed, but that passion for the pursuit of improvement, of finding and doing things a better way, took hold and never left.

Finding inspiration from fly fishing.

That love for fishing also never left. As someone who is dedicated to learning and perfecting whatever I do, fishing has taken me to some pretty amazing places around the world. Then, inspired by my father who was an orthopaedic surgeon, I went to medical school and discovered that orthopaedics was also a perfect fit for me.

Once I became an orthopaedic surgeon, I saw so many parallels to the knot tying I’d done while fishing, that I knew I could solve some of the frustrations I had during surgery with fly fishing techniques. Using what I learned from my first foray into innovating the hook at 18, I knew exactly how I could create surgical tools that would make procedures smoother and more effective in the operating room.

Founding Native to
realize the vision.

Starting Native is the marriage of my passion for orthopaedics, my life-long love of fishing, and a deep seated need to find better way to do things. As a team, we hope to move the boundaries of orthopaedics forward that we may have better outcomes for patients and lighter cognitive load for surgeons.
